Diving in Ibiza – immerse yourself in the waters of the island
Ibiza not only has paradisiacal beaches or a nightlife. Its crystalline waters hide treasures that only those who practice scuba diving can see.
But don’t be fooled, to be able to enjoy this beauty you don’t have to be a diving professional, going to beautiful coves and snorkeling equipment (goggles, tube and booties) will be more than enough to spend long hours contemplating marine life. Of course, for those who dive, they will be able to see more marine fauna at greater depths.
Mediterranean paradise
Diving on the island of Ibiza is a luxury, since it is an island in the Mediterranean and its temperature is between 15 degrees in winter and 27 in summer, which makes it an ideal place to practice scuba diving all year round. In addition, its seabeds are full of oceanic Posidonia meadows, which facilitates the biodiversity of the waters and makes them crystal clear.
In the middle of the Mediterranean
The Balearic Islands are far from the peninsular coast, which allows great visibility in their waters and to be able to enjoy a vision of more than 30 meters, even seeing a distance of 40 meters.
All this means that we can enjoy marine life, being able to see conger eels, barracudas, groupers, moray eels, Norway lobster, octopus or lobsters and the incredible underwater relief you will be able to see islets and underwater mountains with incredible walls next to caves and shipwrecks.
Where to practice diving in Ibiza
We show you different places on the island where you can practice diving and see magical places under the seabed. The underwater Cathedral
The Cathedral is the cave of Cala Llonga, known by this name since it is the place of pilgrimage for divers who set foot on the island. A dive that reaches a depth of 15 meters is accessed at the entrance of the cave that is located about 8 meters from the surface.
The magic of this place is that it has a large space inside and a large air pocket, so it is worth taking off your tube and glasses to contemplate the beauty of the enormous dome formed by stalactites.
Don Pedro, the wrecked ship
In 2007, a merchant ship called Don Pedro, 140 meters long, collided with the islet of Es Daus off the coast of the city of Ibiza, where remains quickly fell under the seabed and is currently part of the habitat of different marine species, which make it an ideal place for divers visiting the island.
Located between 25 and 45 meters deep, the waters are crystal clear and we must take into account that this place is a dive for more experienced divers.
The Cave of Light
In the north of the island is the municipality of San Mateo de Albarca where the Albarca cove is located, a wooded area with a bay that has become a highly appreciated place for divers.
You will be able to access underwater just 3 meters below the surface to the cave where once inside it is 15 meters wide, where it also has an air pocket and natural light enters from the highest point of the cave.
