Atlantis – the most mysterious place in Ibiza

Sa Pedrera de Cala d’Hort, known as Atlantis, is a place out of mystery, where nature and human beings have been making history in this very different place.

It is true that we cannot say that Sa Pedrera de Cala d’Hort is an unknown place, since every year this place is more visited to discover what is hidden in the famous Atlantis.

The location of this place is southeast of the island of Ibiza, a place very different from the rest of the world and that its name Atlantis comes from Atlantis, that mythical island that Plato described in the Timaeus and Critias dialogues.

Mystery rocks

The strange rock formations of Atlantis make for a most peculiar dreamscape, with natural saltwater pools and a multitude of symbols carved into the rocks.

Atlantis houses among its rocks a peculiar history that began in the 16th century when the extraction of the stone with which part of the walls of Dalt Vila and the Castle of Ibiza were built, which are a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, were carried out.

Hippie movement

The 60s it was the arrival of the hippie movements on the island, Sa Pedrera de Cala d’Hort was the place where many chose to find peace and harmony.

All this is reflected in the rocks where you will see carved fish, Buddhas, words and the symbol of peace. In addition, the hippies baptized it as Atlantis because of the mysticism and energy that surrounds it.

How to get to Atlantis

To get to this mysterious place, it must be said that it is not easy at all, access is somewhat complicated, although it must be said that it is not impossible.

From Sant Josep de Sa Talaia we must take the road that goes to Es Cubells, where before reaching the town you will find a detour to Cala d’Hort. Then you will see a detour to the left towards Sa Pedrera, an unpaved road where you will find a small esplanade where you can leave the car.

Now it’s time to walk to a point on the edge of the cliff where the descent begins along a sandy road to Atlantis (30 minutes down). It is important to do this path with sneakers and to do it for people who do not have vertigo.
